At Poway Community Foundation, we are privileged to have a dedicated and passionate group of individuals serving as our volunteer Board of Directors. Composed entirely of Poway residents, each member brings a deep-rooted love for our community and a genuine desire to make a positive difference.

  • Ginger Couvrette

    CO-CHAIR

    Ginger is so thankful to have raised her family with husband, John, in Poway. Enjoying every aspect of team mom and room parent while the kids were young, her volunteering matured as the kids grew. Serving as President of the Poway Sports Assoc, Chairman of the City of Poway’s Budget and Parks and Rec Committees, she is honored to be serving her second elected term to the PUSD Board of Education. 10 years ago she founded Halcyon Real Estate, a Poway business, which is a full service real estate brokerage from sales to property management. She and John are excited to work with other members of the community to start the Poway Community Foundation because Poway has been such a wonderful place to their family and they want to share their Poway pride to help others.

  • John Couvrette

    CO-CHAIR

    John is a 4th generation San Diegan and resident of Poway since 1995. He and wife, Ginger, moved to Poway and raised 3 successful children. Coaching softball, soccer, baseball and Pop Warner, he has very fond memories developing Poway young athletes. Four years ago he got off the international corporate treadmill and joined Ginger at Halcyon Real Estate. He also jumped right into the community as President of Kiwanis, CFO of the Poway Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the City of Poway Budget Committee and Chairman of the Poway NonProfit Consortium which boasts 55 members. Having won such community awards such as Most Valuable Kiwanian and two time winner of the Chamber’s Vern Maston Award, he is eager to “Connect the Dots” with the Poway Community Foundation.

  • Meredith Gant

    SECRETARY

    Meredith has lived in Poway for since 2003. She sought out Poway for its reputation as an excellent community to raise a family. Meredith's three daughters went through the Poway school system while she served on the school district's PTA and Foundation Boards, as well as Poway’s Girl Scouts Board of Directors. During this time, she and her husband ran a successful business, while volunteering with countless organizations in the community. Prior to that, Meredith worked as a successful marketing executive for HP, Compaq, and Ziff-Davis.

  • John Mullin

    TREASURER

    John has lived in Poway since 1976 and is the former President of Pacific M Painting Inc., a trade contractor operating in San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. He is currently semi-retired, holding the position of CFO. John is a San Diego State graduate and has founded and operated several businesses in the construction industry. John’s an active volunteer and supporter of the Poway Community, having served as a Director and Governmental Affairs Chair of the Poway Chamber of Commerce, President of Poway Girls Softball and twice Construction Chair for Poway High Grad Nite. He also served 12 years as a member of the Poway City Council, and in that capacity, served as a member of the Metro Wastewater JPA, Director of the Regional Solid Waste Association and the Metropolitan Transit System. John and his wife Susie are the parents of 3 grown children.

  • Cynthia Elizondo

    GRANT CHAIR

    Cynthia has lived in Poway since 2000 with her family. She raised two successful children through the Poway school system, and gives back to her community through her work with various local organizations. She has been the President of the Board of Directors of the Poway Valley Senior Citizens Corporation for over five years, past president and current board member of the Poway Chamber of Commerce, Sheriff's Department Senior Volunteer Patrol since 2017, past president and current board member of the Poway Real Estate Professionals and current President of Soroptimists of Poway. On Sundays, she can be found at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, where she trains Extraordinary Ministers of Communion. Cynthia was named Woman of the Year for California's 75th District in 2023.

  • Carrie Behic

    CORPORATE RELATIONS CHAIR

    Carrie, a San Diego native, moved to Poway in 2002. After an education that included Mission Bay HS, Mira Costa JC and SDSU, she graduated from UTSA. She spent 12 years at Caliber Home Loans, ultimately serving as VP of Customer Advocacy. Today, as the owner of Elite XP, she specializes in consulting and coaching in the field of Customer Experience. Carrie is committed to community service, previously serving as Fundraising Chair at Children's Corner and co-chair of the Dream Employee Resource group, dedicated to empowering and mentoring women in business. Carrie actively participates in events such as the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, SD Honor Flight, and Little Tommy's Breaking and Entering Christmas. Carrie's proudest achievement is her blended family, including husband Robert, 6 successful adult kids that graduated from Poway High, 2 beautiful grand daughters, and a grandson on the way.

  • Steven Stone

    COMMUNICIATIONS CHAIR

    Steven moved to Poway in 1973 with his family where he attended Twin Peaks and Poway High and later graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Finance. His two children graduated from Poway High and as a volunteer he served as Chair of the Poway High Foundation and was recognized as 2016 Poway Unified School District Volunteer of the Year for Poway High School, and BSA Troop Committee Chair for 3 years and awarded District Unit Volunteer of the Year for 2010. He is a founding member of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, a NYSE publicly traded life science real estate investment trust, where he was Corporate Vice President. Currently, Steven is a broker associate with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and volunteers as President of the Green Valley Civic Association and as a committee member of the Poway High Alumni Association.

  • Steve South

    BOARD MEMBER

    Steve South joined EDCO, a family owned waste and recycling company, in 1993 and two years later was named Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In 2005, he was named President & Chief Executive Officer for all EDCO companies. A native San Diegan and graduate of St. Augustine High School, he and his family reside in Poway, CA. In his duties, Steve is responsible for oversight of all operations in San Diego County, Los Angeles County and Orange County including collection, recycling and organics processing, customer service, inter‐governmental affairs, market development and transfer and transport operations. In addition, he has directly overseen the development, permitting, financing, design and construction of thirteen new Solid Waste / Material Recovery Facilities. Mr. South has been officially recognized by the United States House of Representatives, the State of California Senate and Assembly, the County of San Diego and the Port of San Diego among others, for outstanding business leadership and community support.

  • Lisa Tate

    EVENTS CHAIR

    Lisa moved to Poway in 2002 with her husband John and two daughters. They chose Poway to be part of a family-oriented community with a superior school district. She volunteered throughout the years her daughters were in school in the classrooms, PTA and every sport they participated in. More recently in 2020, Lisa joined the Poway Chamber of Commerce, and quickly was elected to their Board of Directors. She currently holds the position of Secretary and Parliamentarian. She also is a Board Member of her community HOA as well as the CFO of a Poway non-profit, What You Deserve.

  • Cathy Peterson

    IMPACT CHAIR

    Cathy has been a Poway resident since 1972 and attended Midland Elementary School, Twin Peaks Middle School and Poway High School. Our family business (Farmers Insurance) has been located in Poway since 1991. We are very involved in the Poway Community; I am in my 3rd term of being the Poway Chamber of Commerce Board Chair and Chair of the Poway Fall Festival and have been a Chamber member for over 20 years. We are also sponsors of the Poway Rodeo, the Burn Institute and the Poway Padres Special Needs baseball team.

  • Kevin McNamara

    BOARD MEMBER

    In 1997, Kevin moved to Poway, where all three of his children graduated from PUSD schools and three of his grandchildren attended Chaparral Elementary. Kevin has actively participated in various community roles during his time in Poway, serving as the chair of the Rancho Penasquitos Planning Board, leading the mayor's commission on migrant housing, and chairing the citizens action committee for SR 56. He played a crucial role in naming the Ted Williams Parkway, served on the planning committee for the Future Urbanizing Area, and was on the board of the San Diego Burn Institute. As a member of the Ballpark Task Force, Kevin significantly contributed to the development of Petco Park. He has chaired the City of Poway Budget Review committee and the Poway Road Planning Committee. Kevin has also invested in various commercial projects, including the redevelopment of Old Poway Village. Currently, he holds the position of Managing Partner for the Farm in Poway, overseeing the redevelopment of the former Stoneridge Country Club.
