Healthy Community, Prosperous Community: How a $5,000 Grant Helped Neighborhood Healthcare Reach Over 900 Poway Residents
At the Poway Community Foundation, we know that access to healthcare and nutrition is not just a personal need, it's a community need. When residents can't navigate enrollment systems or miss deadlines for critical benefits, the effects ripple through families and neighborhoods. That's why we awarded a $5,000 grant to Neighborhood Healthcare in support of their Community Outreach and Enrollment Services program.
Neighborhood Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving over 8,000 individuals in Poway from their Gold Family Health Center at 13010 Poway Road. Their team provides compassionate, culturally sensitive primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health, and other services to everyone, regardless of their situation or circumstances.
As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, so does the risk that residents miss enrollment deadlines or hesitate to apply for Medi-Cal or CalFresh benefits due to confusion about new requirements. This grant funded the additional outreach and educational support needed to close that gap.
The results were significant:
More than 180 patients enrolled in Medi-Cal.
A dozen patients enrolled in CalFresh and Covered California.
Over 700 individuals received health education.
Staff participated in 31 community events throughout Poway.

Founded over 50 years ago, Neighborhood Healthcare has long served those who need it most across San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. This grant helped extend that mission deeper into Poway, ensuring more residents have the coverage, nutrition support, and health education they need to thrive.
