Helping Poway Businesses Open Doors to Neurodiverse Talent

At the Poway Community Foundation, we believe strong communities are built by creating opportunities for everyone to thrive. That's why we're proud to support the National Foundation for Autism Research's (NFAR) initiative, Powering Poway Businesses through Neurodiversity, with a $10,000 grant. The initiative matches Poway businesses with an often overlooked and highly capable talent pool: autistic individuals, creating a win-win for the community.

A Local Opportunity, Largely Untapped

Poway is home to more than 500 businesses and a thriving business park employing over 18,000 people. Yet many employers are unaware of the strengths autistic individuals bring to the workplace, including exceptional attention to detail, technical aptitude, reliability, creativity, and problem-solving skills. At the same time, unemployment among autistic adults remains disproportionately high, despite many being prepared and motivated to work.

What the Initiative Provides

Through this program, NFAR partners directly with Poway employers to build more autism-friendly workplaces and create pathways to meaningful employment, at no cost to participating businesses. Services include:

  • Neurodiversity awareness training for employers and staff

  • Interview guidance and inclusive hiring strategies to attract qualified talent

  • Connections between NFAR graduates and paid internships that can lead to employment

  • Ongoing support for employers and interns to promote successful workplace experiences

A Track Record of Preparing Talent

Since 2015, NFAR has prepared autistic young adults for competitive employment through industry-aligned training, including technical instruction, soft skills training, workplace readiness, and industry certifications. By working alongside employers throughout the hiring process, NFAR helps businesses build stronger, more innovative teams while giving autistic adults the opportunity to launch meaningful careers.

The Poway Community Foundation is proud to support this effort and help build a business community that is thriving, innovative, and welcoming to all.
