Poway Symphony Orchestra: Bringing Classical Music to the Whole Community

The Poway Community Foundation is proud to support the Poway Symphony Orchestra (PSO) with a $5,000 grant. The 65-member semi-professional orchestra brings world-class symphonic music to North County San Diego through performances of the great composers and acclaimed guest artists, and this grant helps extend that mission well beyond the concert hall.

Bringing Music Directly to the Community

PCF's grant helped fund PSO's Educational Outreach Program, which delivers free, interactive classical music experiences directly to local schools, libraries, and senior living communities. Led by professional musician and educator Katie Grab, PSO musicians engage audiences through musical storytelling, instrument demonstrations, mini-concerts, and audience participation.

During its inaugural season, the program reached children, families, and seniors throughout Poway, introducing many of them to live classical music for the first time and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the performing arts.

Reaching Students Where They Learn

Four music and storytelling programs were presented specifically to elementary school students in PUSD schools, with attendance ranging from 25 students to full classes of 40 per session. Students have been avid listeners and, often, active participants. The interest and impact of this project have continually exceeded expectations.

A Growing Audience for Live Music

Beyond the schools, PSO's concerts continue to draw highly enthusiastic and appreciative audiences of all ages, with attendance consistently approaching the maximum capacity of the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.
